About This Coastline

Set on the southern side of Jervis Bay, Hyams Beach is a small coastal village known for brilliant pale sand, clear bay water and a forested setting close to national park.

The setting is not simply decorative; the water has shaped transport, work, recreation and the way the surrounding community has developed.

The Vibe

The mood is quiet in the early morning, with swimmers, paddleboarders and walkers sharing a shore that feels more residential than resort-like.

It becomes much busier in holiday periods, when limited village parking makes arriving on foot via the White Sands Walk especially appealing. There is enough activity to give the place energy, yet the coast still offers quieter moments away from the principal access points.

The Local Anchor

Hyams forms part of the White Sands Walk linking several beaches around Vincentia and Jervis Bay.

Across the water, Point Perpendicular and Bowen Island give the bay a strong visual frame, while nearby Huskisson provides the area’s principal cafés, boat departures and maritime services. Together, these features connect present-day visitors with the industries, communities and environmental systems that established the area.

The Landscape

The beach faces the protected waters of Jervis Bay Marine Park and is suitable for swimming and snorkelling in settled conditions, although it is unpatrolled.

A rocky section at the northern end adds habitat and underwater interest to an otherwise long, gently curving sweep of fine sand. From elevated viewpoints to water level, the landscape reveals different forms as light, tide and weather move across it.

The result is a shoreline where natural conditions, community history and everyday recreation remain closely connected.
