The Vibe

There is an elemental calm to Chinguarime, even on days when the water beyond the shoreline is restless. This is a simple coastal escape, suited to reading the weather, listening to the water and watching light move across the shore.

Low sun gives depth to every fold of the coast and reveals textures easily missed at midday. The natural soundtrack is stones turning in the backwash, wind in sparse coastal plants and the repeated hush of retreating water. This is a coast for people happy to watch, walk and pause, without needing a timetable of attractions.

Chinguarime — A Cove Between Cliff and Ocean

The Local Anchor

Chinguarime is one of a trio of secluded southern coves, together with Tapahuga and El Medio, set beneath the dry cliffs east of Playa Santiago.

Around Chinguarime, the local reference point is Playa Santiago in the municipality of Alajeró. After a visit to Chinguarime, its harbour and fishing history give the southern coast a practical character, carried into meals of local fish, papas arrugadas, mojo and mature Gomeran cheese.

The Landscape

Facing the south east side of La Gomera, Chinguarime is framed by dry slopes, strong sun and water that can look deceptively gentle between wind-driven intervals.

The beach surface is naturally variable, with finer material collecting in calmer periods and stone reappearing after rough water. The apparent calm of Chinguarime should always be read alongside tide, swell and any local warning signs. What Chinguarime leaves behind is a memory of scale, texture and Atlantic light rather than a checklist of facilities.
