About Antibes

Antibes is one of the strongest Côte d’Azur choices for visitors who want more than a simple beach stop. It has sandy bathing areas, a real old town, a major marina, museums, markets and the kind of walkable seafront that makes a beach day feel part of a wider Riviera visit.

The Vibe

The mood is lively, polished and practical. Antibes is glamorous, but less showy than Saint-Tropez and easier to use than Monaco. Families come for the town beaches and calmer swimming spots, while couples and day visitors are drawn to the old streets, ramparts and marina views. It works well for people who want a beach day with culture close at hand: swim in the morning, walk the old town at lunchtime, then follow the seafront towards the harbour or Cap d’Antibes.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

Port Vauban is the main anchor. It is one of the great Mediterranean marinas, with yachts, harbour walks and easy access to the old town. For visitors arriving by car, the practical parking choice is around the port, especially the Pré aux Pêcheurs / Port d’Antibes parking area, which puts you close to the harbour, old town, Gravette Beach and the museum quarter. Town parking rules and free periods are published for both Antibes and Juan-les-Pins, so it is worth checking before a summer visit.

Antibes flies eleven Blue Flags in 2026 — one of the densest concentrations on the Côte d'Azur. The flagged beaches run right around the commune: La Salis and La Garoupe Ouest on the Cap side, Fort Carré and Le Croûton by the harbours, Les Groules, Marineland and square Gould towards Biot, and the Fontonne and Antibes-les-Pins sands (Est and Ouest) along the main shore.

The Landscape

The seafront is shaped by old stone, blue water and marina life. The Picasso Museum sits in the Château Grimaldi, a historic building on the old Antibes waterfront that has housed the collection since 1966. From this side of town, the setting pulls together the ramparts, sea views, Port Vauban and the small sheltered beach of La Gravette. It is this mix — beach, harbour and culture in a few hundred walkable metres — that makes Antibes one of the Riviera’s most complete seaside towns.
