About Amoreira-Mar
On the coast of Aljezur, Amoreira–Mar occupies the wild Atlantic shoreline protected within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. The sea-facing section lies where the Ribeira de Aljezur meets the Atlantic, between dunes and distinctive dark rock formations.
The Vibe
The atmosphere is spacious, surf-minded and close to nature, with fewer large resorts and a strong connection to walking, farming and small coastal settlements. Mornings feel clearest, before the main access becomes busy and while the light still reveals the beach’s natural detail. Later, swimmers, walkers and families create a more sociable rhythm.
This is a place for hiking and photography, but also for a slow meal in Aljezur or a coastal village. Even in high summer, water, wind and open sky remain the defining background.
Today's Beach Report
The sea state is 0.88m, with waves knee to waist high, making for fun conditions for experienced surfers. The day is expected to have sunny intervals with a high of 24°C and a low of 17°C. Currently, it is mostly cloudy with a temperature of 19°C.
The water temperature is 19.2°C, which is cool, so a spring suit or rashie is recommended for water activities. The wave conditions are suitable for surfing and other ocean activities, but swimmers should be cautious of the powerful swell. The sea state is generally calm enough for swimming, but strong currents may be present.
For outdoor activities, the wind is currently 11 km/h from NW, which is suitable for cycling, running, and surfing. It is essential to use SPF 50 or higher for sun protection due to the high UV index. Surfers should note that the wave conditions are currently fun, but the wind direction and speed may affect the surf quality throughout the day.

The Setting
The Local Anchor
Amoreira–Mar draws much of its identity from Aljezur, an inland market town beneath its hilltop castle, and the fishing and surfing communities scattered along the coast. Natural-park protection helps preserve the valleys, cliffs and dunes of the western coast.
Beyond the sand, fish landed along the coast, whitewashed streets, markets and shaded terraces turn a beach stop into a fuller visit. The atmosphere remains Portuguese even where tourism is well established.
The Landscape
Around Amoreira–Mar, the coast is characterised by dark and ochre cliffs, river valleys, dunes and wide beaches exposed to the full Atlantic. River mouths and winter streams cut through the cliffs, creating broad valleys beside the surf. Strong surf, rip currents and rapid changes are common enough that lifeguarded areas and local advice are especially important.
A walk shows where the shore opens, where rocks or channels interrupt it and how closely human activity sits beside natural ground. The location feels Algarvian, but not interchangeable with its neighbours.
