About COELHA

On the coast of Albufeira, Coelha occupies the more broken, scenic coast west of Albufeira, where small coves alternate with longer beaches beneath honey-coloured rock formations. Coelha is a compact cove reached through a greener, lower-density area of the western Albufeira coast.

The Vibe

Coelha feels more intimate than the town-centre beaches, balancing easy holiday comforts with a stronger sense of coastal scenery. A day unfolds easily here: an early walk, a swim when conditions allow, lunch nearby and another hour watching the shoreline.

Visitors come for quiet mornings on the sand and discovering the small headlands nearby. Away from the principal access, the mood often becomes noticeably quieter.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

Its cultural anchor is the western side of Albufeira, close to fishing traditions, seafood restaurants and the transition toward the wetlands around Salgados. This coast bridges Albufeira’s resort centre and the more open dunes and wetlands farther west.

This setting offers more than swimming: seafood lunches, older neighbourhoods and glimpses of the working coast. Boats, harbour activity and simply prepared local food keep the Algarve’s maritime heritage visible.

The Landscape

The scenery combines sand, low headlands, sea stacks and sculpted cliffs, with dunes and lagoon habitat appearing toward the west. Erosion has produced ledges, isolated rocks and coves with separate visual identities. The coves can be appealing for bathing in calm periods, while rocky edges and changing swell require attention.

Exploring beyond the busiest section reveals geology, vegetation and local coastal use. Coelha works as a bathing place, a walking destination and a viewpoint, provided daily sea guidance is respected.

It is this balance of landscape, activity and regional character that gives Coelha its own place on the Algarve coast.
