About COVA REDONDA

Cova Redonda belongs to Lagoa and sits within a deeply indented limestone shoreline where small beaches sit beneath warm-coloured cliffs pierced by caves, arches and narrow gullies. Cova Redonda is reached by steps through vegetation and sits below high cliffs east of Senhora da Rocha.

The Vibe

Cova Redonda feels scenic and intimate, with the drama of the rock formations often as memorable as the time spent on the sand. A day unfolds easily here: an early walk, a swim when conditions allow, lunch nearby and another hour watching the shoreline.

Visitors come for exploring arches and viewpoints and quiet time on a small beach. Away from the principal access, the mood often becomes noticeably quieter.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

Behind the beach lies the influence of the towns of Carvoeiro, Lagoa and Porches, linked to fishing, pottery, vineyards and boat trips along the cave-rich coast. Boat traditions and cliff-top paths reveal the coast from water level and from above the limestone.

The surrounding culture appears in grilled sardines, cataplana, small fishing craft and white houses. These details connect modern leisure with the Algarve’s older maritime life.

The Landscape

The scenery combines golden sand enclosed by layered limestone, with sea caves, isolated stacks and cliff-top walking routes. Erosion shapes the arches and caves, while also making cliff safety essential. The coves may feel sheltered in calm weather, although waves can rebound from cliffs and access may be affected by rockfall precautions.

Exploring beyond the busiest section reveals geology, vegetation and local coastal use. Cova Redonda works as a bathing place, a walking destination and a viewpoint, provided daily sea guidance is respected.

For visitors, Cova Redonda is most memorable when the beach and its surrounding community are experienced together.
