About LOULÉ VELHO
Loulé Velho belongs to Loulé and sits within the central Algarve coast between the Ria Formosa and the resort towns of Quarteira and Vilamoura. This quieter beach between Quarteira and Vale do Lobo is backed by ochre cliffs and a broad coastal pine forest.
The Vibe
At Loulé Velho, the mood is polished yet relaxed, combining broad beaches with golf, tennis, marina life and long lunches beside the water. It suits travellers who enjoy early exercise on the sand, while leaving space for a leisurely seafood lunch. The central access may be sociable, yet a short walk usually changes the atmosphere.
Natural sound dominates: surf, wind in coastal vegetation and occasional boat traffic.
Today's Coastal Conditions
Today's conditions for this stretch of the Algarve coast.
The sea state is excellent for swimmers with wave conditions at 0.48m, ankle high. The day is expected to be clear with a maximum temperature of 32°C. A moderate wind from the north is forecast, but currently, the wind is light at 6 km/h from NNW.
The water temperature is 20.4°C, making a spring suit or rashie a good choice for water activities. The clear Atlantic water and limestone scenery provide a great setting for divers and snorkelers. The wave conditions are also suitable for surfers, although the waves are only ankle high.
For outdoor activities, it's best to plan around the wind, which is currently light but expected to pick up to moderate levels. Cyclists and runners may prefer the morning or late afternoon when the wind is likely to be lighter. With a very high UV index forecast, it's essential to avoid direct sun between 11am and 3pm and take sensible sun protection measures throughout the day.

The Setting
The Local Anchor
The local reference point is Loulé’s coastal communities, where traditional fishing around Quarteira now shares the shoreline with internationally known resorts and golf courses. Golf, tennis and sailing are nearby, yet the beach still belongs to a wider working coastline.
That connection keeps the beach tied to a real place. Nearby menus naturally favour grilled fish, clams, octopus and rice dishes, while cafés and restaurants carry the day gently into the evening.
The Landscape
The beach sits among wide sand, low dunes and occasional ochre cliffs, with the Ria Formosa beginning at the quieter eastern end. Dunes and lagoon habitat dominate the east; promenades and low cliffs become stronger westward. Settled summer weather often favours bathing, while afternoon breezes also support sailing and paddle sports.
Tide and light alter the scene constantly. Wet sand reflects the sky, geological layers become clearer and coastal plants show how the shore is reshaped. Posted warnings and supervised bathing zones take priority over general impressions.
