About Meia Praia
The Vibe
Meia Praia feels spacious, active and flexible. Families use the more accessible western sections, walkers cover long distances beside the water and water-sports users favour the open bay when wind conditions develop. Even during busy periods, the beach's length makes it possible to move away from the principal entrances.
The open shoreline responds to Atlantic swell, wind and changing sandbars. Conditions vary along the bay, and the water can become choppy when afternoon breeze strengthens. Visitors should use supervised areas, follow flags and prepare for strong sun because natural shade is almost absent.

The Setting
About Meia Praia
Meia Praia stretches east from Lagos along one of the western Algarve's longest continuous sandy bays. Its broad shore, low dunes and open views across Lagos Bay create a very different landscape from the small cliff-backed coves south of the city.
The Local Anchor
Lagos lies immediately west across the river entrance, with its marina, railway station and historic centre providing the main urban reference. The Forte da Meia Praia recalls the defensive importance of the bay and the approaches to the city.
Several access points serve different parts of the shore, linking beach restaurants, parking areas and accommodation with the sand. The eastern end becomes quieter and more open as the city skyline recedes.
The Landscape
Pale sand extends in a long arc beneath low dunes and a broad southern horizon. The Serra de Monchique and distant western headlands may be visible in clear conditions, while Lagos forms a compact skyline at the western edge.
Unlike the eroded limestone coves around Ponta da Piedade, Meia Praia is defined by openness and continuity. Long sand, low vegetation and a wide bay create a practical beach for walking, swimming and wind-powered activity within easy reach of Lagos. The western end is easiest to combine with the marina and city centre, while eastern entrances suit visitors seeking greater space. The level shoreline also makes Meia Praia one of the better Lagos options for long early-morning exercise before the exposed sand becomes hot.
