About Monte Gordo-Nascente
In Vila Real de Santo António, Monte Gordo–Nascente forms part of the broad, low-lying sands of the eastern Algarve, where dunes and pine woods replace the sculpted cliffs found farther west. This eastern section lies nearer the pine woods and the direction of Vila Real de Santo António, offering more space away from the resort centre.
The Vibe
The character of Monte Gordo–Nascente is open, sunny and easy-going, with a family-holiday rhythm and long horizons rather than a cove-like sense of enclosure. People arrive for swimming in settled weather, but many remain for cycling or walking through the nearby pine belt and the pleasure of watching the coast change through the day.
Space, light and salt air do most of the work. During the busiest weeks, earlier and later hours are especially rewarding.
Today's Beach Report
The sea state is excellent for swimmers with wave conditions at 0.38m, ankle high. The day is expected to be clear with a maximum temperature of 31°C and a minimum of 20°C. Currently, the temperature is 20°C with clear blue skies.
The water temperature is 21.9°C, making a spring suit or rashie suitable for water activities. The wave conditions are ideal for swimmers, and the clear Atlantic water provides good visibility. The ocean conditions are calm and safe for diving and snorkeling.
For outdoor activities, the wind is currently 20 km/h from NNW, which may impact cycling and running plans. It's essential to take precautions against very high UV levels, avoiding direct sun between 11am-3pm. Surfers may find the current wind and wave conditions suitable for their activities, with ankle-high waves and a moderate breeze.

The Setting
The Local Anchor
Monte Gordo–Nascente draws much of its identity from the eastern Algarve’s fishing towns, salt-marsh landscapes and the mouth of the Guadiana, which has long linked this coast with neighbouring Spain. The shoreline belongs to the Sotavento, where broad sands connect neighbouring communities.
Beyond the sand, fish landed along the coast, whitewashed streets, markets and shaded terraces turn a beach stop into a fuller visit. The atmosphere remains Portuguese even where tourism is well established.
The Landscape
Here, a continuous sandy shoreline backed by modest dunes, coastal vegetation and, in places, extensive pine woodland. The sand belt continues for kilometres, so the atmosphere changes gradually rather than at a dramatic headland. Conditions are generally gentler and seasonally warmer than on the Atlantic-facing west coast, although wind, tide and swell still alter the water.
The shoreline is rewarding on foot outside the hottest hours. Different viewpoints clarify the relationship between sand, settlement and natural coast. Waves, wind and official beach guidance should always shape decisions about swimming.
