About Alcúdia

The Vibe

Alcúdia has two personalities: a historic Mallorcan town enclosed by medieval walls and a broad resort coast facing one of the island’s largest bays.

The beach area is open, easy-going and family orientated, while the old centre becomes quieter and more architectural once the day’s beach traffic fades.

The long sandy shore shelves gently in many places, and the protected shape of the bay often produces calmer conditions than Mallorca’s exposed capes.

The strongest days here are not necessarily the busiest ones; early morning and late afternoon often reveal the underlying character most clearly.

The experience is strongly seasonal: high summer brings fuller beaches and busier roads, while spring and autumn reveal more of the island’s walking, village and maritime character.

Today's Beach Report

Saturday, July 11, is shaping up to be a fantastic day here on our beautiful coast. This morning, the clear skies and light winds are setting the tone for a wonderful day ahead. With temperatures expected to rise to 36°C, it's going to be a warm and sunny day, perfect for all sorts of outdoor activities. As we look ahead to the day, it's clear that the calm and gentle conditions will make it an ideal time to get out and enjoy the water, whether that's swimming, surfing, or simply soaking up the sun.

The beach conditions are looking particularly inviting, with a calm and gentle surf, and the nearshore waves are a mere 0.2m, making it ideal for paddleboarding. The water temperature is a warm 27.5°C, which is perfect for swimmers and surfers alike. With these conditions, it's a great day to get out and enjoy the water, whether you're a seasoned surfer or just looking to cool off. And for those looking to explore the bay, the calm conditions make it an excellent time for snorkelling and paddleboarding. As a brief note for our sailors and boaters, the offshore coastal-waters forecast is calling for variable winds and increasing waves, so be sure to check the latest forecast before heading out.

For our runners and cyclists, the morning conditions are looking great, with light winds and clear skies making it an ideal time to get out and enjoy the scenic routes. However, with the UV index forecast peak reaching 9, it's essential to remember to avoid direct sun between 12pm and 4pm and to wear full coverage to protect yourself from the sun. As the afternoon develops, the reliable thermal breezes that come in from the Tramuntana mountain range will make it a great time for sailing and windsurfing. The afternoon winds will also make it a fantastic time for cyclists to tackle some of the more challenging mountain climbs, and for runners to enjoy the scenic coastal routes.

As we head into the afternoon, the clear skies and light winds are expected to continue, making it a great time to get out and enjoy all the activities our beautiful coast has to offer. By lunchtime, the sun will be shining brightly, and it's essential to remember to take care of yourself in the heat. As the afternoon develops, the conditions will remain calm and inviting, making it an ideal time to get out and enjoy the water or take a leisurely bike ride. Heading into this evening, while the sky conditions are unclear, the warm temperatures will likely continue, making it a great time to enjoy a sunset stroll or a relaxing dinner outdoors. Whatever you have planned, make the most of this beautiful day and enjoy all that our stunning coast has to offer.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

The clearest local anchor is the walled old town, with the church of Sant Jaume and the nearby remains of Roman Pollentia giving the destination unusual historical depth.

Alcúdia grew beside routes used long before modern tourism, and its streets still show the layers of Roman, medieval and island life.

This local history gives context to the harbour, promenade and settlement rather than leaving them as anonymous resort scenery.

The Landscape

South of the resort coastline lies the wetland of S’Albufera de Mallorca, while the La Victòria peninsula rises to the north.

Sand, shallow water, wetland and low wooded hills create a softer landscape than the cliffs of nearby Formentor.

As elsewhere in the Balearics, the coast is most rewarding when the beach is treated as part of a wider landscape of old towns, dry-stone country and short coastal walks.

It works particularly well for travellers wanting a spacious beach day without giving up walks, archaeology or a genuine old town.

Morning light usually clarifies the landforms, while the later sun brings more colour to rock, buildings and water.

Conditions should be checked at the exact beach being used, because a neighbouring bay or headland may behave quite differently.
