About Arguineguin

The Vibe

Arguineguín retains more everyday island life than many neighbouring resorts, with a working harbour, residential streets and compact beaches sharing the same waterfront.

Fishing boats, local cafés and the weekly market give the town a practical rhythm beneath the strong tourism economy of southern Gran Canaria.

Small bays and harbour structures create pockets of relatively sheltered water, though this remains an Atlantic coast and conditions should always be read locally.

The strongest days here are not necessarily the busiest ones; early morning and late afternoon often reveal the underlying character most clearly.

Conditions can differ sharply around an island headland, so a calm-looking bay should not be taken as a guide to every nearby beach.

Today's Beach Report

Saturday, July 11, is shaping up to be a wonderful day along our beautiful coastline, filled with the authentic charm of a working fishing port and the warm Mediterranean conditions that make this place so special. To start, I want to address the maritime situation, and I'm happy to report that there is no alert in effect, so we can all enjoy the water with peace of mind. This morning, as the sun rises, the sky is mostly clear, with a light breeze blowing in from the southeast at 15 km/h, making it a perfect time for runners, cyclists, and tennis players to get out and enjoy their favorite activities. With temperatures ranging from 18°C to 28°C, it's going to be a pleasant day, and the dry conditions mean we can all make the most of the outdoors.

The beach is looking inviting, with small, knee-high waves of 0.6m, which are ideal for beginners and bodyboarders. The water temperature is a warm 23.1°C, making it perfect for swimmers, surfers, and paddleboarders to enjoy the Mediterranean Sea. The conditions are calm and safe, so whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, today is a great day to get in the water and have some fun. For those who prefer to stay on the shore, the beach is a great place to relax and soak up the sun, and with the light breeze this morning, it's an ideal spot to enjoy the scenery.

For runners and cyclists, the morning conditions are ideal, with a light breeze and dry roads, making it a great time to get out and enjoy a ride or a run along the coast. However, with the UV index forecast peak today reaching 11, which is extreme, it's essential to remember to pack full sun protection, including sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses, and to minimize your outdoor exposure during the middle of the day. As the afternoon develops, the wind is expected to die down, becoming calm, which will be perfect for all outdoor sports, including tennis and paddleboarding. The change in wind conditions means that the afternoon will be even more pleasant for outdoor activities, so be sure to make the most of it.

As the day develops, we can expect the sky to become cloudy by lunchtime, with a 45% chance of light rain, so it's a good idea to pack a light jacket, just in case. The calm conditions will continue into the evening, but we can expect fog to roll in, which will add a touch of mystery to the coastline. Despite the chance of rain, it's still going to be a wonderful day, and with the warm temperatures and beautiful scenery, there's no reason not to get out and enjoy all that our coastline has to offer. So, make the most of this lovely Saturday, and don't let the chance of rain dampen your spirits – with a little preparation, you can have a fantastic day outdoors.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

The fishing port is the town’s clearest anchor, still linking Arguineguín with fresh fish, boat work and the maritime history of the municipality of Mogán.

Its identity predates the surrounding resort development, and that continuity is visible in the harbour and older seafront streets.

This local history gives context to the harbour, promenade and settlement rather than leaving them as anonymous resort scenery.

The Landscape

Dark volcanic ground, dry ravines and low coastal construction frame a series of modest sandy and pebbly shores.

The landscape is arid and sunlit, with little of the lush vegetation found on Gran Canaria’s higher northern slopes.

Volcanic geology is never far from the surface here, and the contrast between dark land, bright water and dry subtropical light gives the coast its unmistakable Canarian identity.

Arguineguín suits visitors who prefer a functioning coastal town and easy access to nearby beaches over an entirely purpose-built holiday enclave.

Morning light usually clarifies the landforms, while the later sun brings more colour to rock, buildings and water.

Conditions should be checked at the exact beach being used, because a neighbouring bay or headland may behave quite differently.
