About Jandia

The Vibe

Jandía is less a single resort than a sweeping southern Fuerteventura landscape of immense beaches, dry mountains and exposed Atlantic space.

Tourist centres provide comfort along parts of the coast, but the peninsula’s strongest impression is scale and openness.

Sotavento’s tidal flats and wind attract water sports, while western shores can carry powerful surf and currents.

Rather than offering only one fixed mood, the location changes with season, wind and the movement of people along the waterfront.

Volcanic geology is never far from the surface here, and the contrast between dark land, bright water and dry subtropical light gives the coast its unmistakable Canarian identity.

Today's Beach Report

Saturday, July 11, is shaping up to be a wonderful day along our stunning coastline, with its breathtaking 30km stretch of white sand beach, backed by sand dunes and lapped by warm, clear Atlantic water. As we begin this morning, it's worth noting that there are no maritime alerts in effect, so we can all enjoy the water with peace of mind. This morning, the cloudy skies and light breeze from the north will make for pleasant conditions, perfect for a run, cycle, or game of tennis. The temperature will be mild, ranging from 17°C to 26°C throughout the day, making it ideal for a variety of outdoor activities. As the day unfolds, we can expect the clouds to persist, with a chance of light rain possible by lunchtime, so it's a good idea to pack accordingly.

The beach conditions look inviting, with small, knee-high waves of 0.9m, making it an excellent day for beginners and bodyboarders to catch some waves. The water temperature is a comfortable 22.7°C, so a spring suit will be sufficient, although a short wetsuit could be optional for some. For swimmers, surfers, and paddleboarders, the conditions are ripe for a fun-filled morning in the water. The calm and clear waters will provide a great opportunity for these water sports enthusiasts to enjoy their activities without any hassle. As for those planning to head out to sea, the offshore conditions are worth noting, but for now, let's focus on the perfect beach conditions that await us.

For runners and cyclists, the morning conditions are ideal, with a light breeze from the north that will make for a pleasant outing. However, as we approach midday, the UV index will reach its peak of 11, which is extreme, so full sun protection is mandatory, and it's advisable to minimise outdoor exposure during this time. The wind will shift slightly to come from the northwest by lunchtime, but it will remain a light breeze, so it shouldn't affect sports planning too much. In fact, the consistent wind conditions will make for great tennis playing conditions, so grab your racket and head out to the court.

As the afternoon develops, there's a 50% chance of light rain, so it's a good idea to pack a light jacket to be prepared. By lunchtime, the clouds will still be present, and the chance of rain will become more pronounced, but it should be a gentle shower at most. As we head into the evening, the rain chance decreases to a low 25% chance of a passing shower, and the overcast skies will persist. Despite the chance of rain, the temperature will remain mild, making for a comfortable evening outdoors. So, let's make the most of this beautiful day, with its mix of sunshine and clouds, and enjoy all the activities our stunning coastline has to offer. With the right preparation and attire, we can have a fantastic day outdoors, so let's get out there and make the most of it!

The Setting

The Local Anchor

Pico de la Zarza, the island’s highest summit, rises along the Jandía massif and forms the peninsula’s natural backbone.

Small settlements and historic livestock routes preceded the resort development concentrated around Costa Calma and Morro Jable.

The landmark is not simply decorative; it helps orient the coast and connects present-day leisure with earlier patterns of defence, trade or fishing.

The Landscape

Golden sand, turquoise shallows, salt-tolerant vegetation and brown volcanic ridges stretch over large distances.

Trade winds and shifting sand are active forces, making this one of Spain’s most austere and beautiful beach landscapes.

Conditions can differ sharply around an island headland, so a calm-looking bay should not be taken as a guide to every nearby beach.

Jandía suits travellers seeking space and outdoor activity, provided each beach is judged on its own conditions.

The landscape is best appreciated slowly, allowing time for a promenade walk, a viewpoint and a second look at the sea before swimming.

The visual calm of a sunny day should never replace local flags, lifeguard advice or a direct check of waves and currents.
