About Meloneras

The Vibe

Meloneras is a polished, modern southwest Gran Canaria resort centred on a long promenade, hotels and evening dining.

It feels quieter and more formal than nearby Playa del Inglés, with much of the activity arranged along the oceanfront.

The coast includes rocky sections and managed beaches, all still exposed to Atlantic changes despite the sheltered southern climate.

It is the relationship between the shore and the place behind it that prevents the destination from feeling interchangeable.

Conditions can differ sharply around an island headland, so a calm-looking bay should not be taken as a guide to every nearby beach.

Today's Beach Report

Good morning and welcome to Saturday, July 11. There is no maritime alert to report, so we can look forward to a great day ahead. This morning, the conditions are mostly clear, with a light breeze from the southeast, making it pleasant for running, cycling, and tennis. The temperature is already starting to rise, and we can expect a beautiful day with plenty of sunshine. As the day unfolds, we can look forward to a mix of clear skies and cloudy periods, with a chance of light rain later on. It's going to be a fantastic day to get outdoors and enjoy all that our beautiful coastal resort has to offer.

The beach conditions are looking great, with small waves of 0.6 meters, making it perfect for beginners and bodyboarders. The water temperature is a warm 23.5 degrees Celsius, ideal for swimming and water sports. Surfers and paddleboarders will love the calm and sheltered conditions, making it easy to catch some waves or explore the coastline. If you're planning to head out on a boat, be aware that the offshore conditions are a bit different, but for those of us staying on the beach, it's going to be a wonderful day to soak up the sun and enjoy the sea.

For runners and cyclists, the morning conditions are ideal, with a light breeze and plenty of sunshine. However, don't forget to pack your sunscreen, as the UV index forecast peak today is 11, which is extreme. It's essential to take full sun protection measures and try to minimize your outdoor exposure during the middle of the day. As the afternoon develops, the wind is expected to become calm, which will be perfect for all outdoor sports. The cloudy conditions and chance of light rain may affect your plans, but it's still going to be a great day to get out and enjoy the fresh air.

As we head into the afternoon, there's a 45% chance of rain, so it's worth packing a light jacket to be on the safe side. By lunchtime, the clouds will start to gather, and we can expect some light rain showers. As the afternoon develops, the rain will clear, and we'll be left with a calm and peaceful evening. As the evening approaches, a fog will start to roll in, but it's still going to be a beautiful night to take a stroll along the beach or enjoy a meal at one of our many outdoor restaurants. So, make the most of this wonderful day, and get out there to enjoy all that our stunning coastal resort has to offer. Have a great day, and we'll see you out there.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

The Maspalomas lighthouse anchors the eastern end of the promenade and links Meloneras directly to the dune and beach landscape beyond.

This is primarily a modern resort district, with its identity based on planned leisure rather than an old fishing centre.

Together, these landmarks explain why the modern beach should be read as one chapter in a much longer coastal story.

The Landscape

Dark volcanic rock, planted gardens and broad sea views contrast with the pale dunes immediately to the east.

The west-facing promenade receives strong sunset light and distant views across the open Atlantic.

Volcanic geology is never far from the surface here, and the contrast between dark land, bright water and dry subtropical light gives the coast its unmistakable Canarian identity.

Meloneras suits travellers seeking comfort, walking and restaurants, with larger sandy spaces available nearby at Maspalomas.

For a first visit, the most useful approach is to walk the waterfront before choosing where to settle, because exposure, access and atmosphere can change over a surprisingly short distance.

Whatever the season, wind, swell, tide and beach flags remain more reliable than appearance alone when deciding whether to enter the water.
