About Morro Jable

The Vibe

Morro Jable combines an older fishing settlement with a major resort coastline on the southern edge of Fuerteventura.

The original village and harbour feel more local, while the long beach and hotel zone extend eastward with a spacious holiday rhythm.

Playa del Matorral can be calm-looking in settled conditions but remains open to Atlantic wind, swell and currents.

The strongest days here are not necessarily the busiest ones; early morning and late afternoon often reveal the underlying character most clearly.

Volcanic geology is never far from the surface here, and the contrast between dark land, bright water and dry subtropical light gives the coast its unmistakable Canarian identity.

Today's Beach Report

Good morning, it's Saturday, July 11, and I'm excited to share today's coastal weather forecast with you. First, let's start with the important news: there are no maritime alerts to report, so we're all clear to enjoy the day. This morning, the skies are cloudy, and we have a moderate breeze from the north, which will make for a great day of cycling, especially if you're looking for a challenge with a headwind. The temperature is a comfortable 19°C, and it's going to be a dry day, perfect for getting outdoors and enjoying all that our beautiful coastal area has to offer.

The beach conditions are looking great, with waves at 0.9m, which is perfect for beginners and bodyboarders. The water temperature is a warm 22.6°C, making it ideal for swimming, surfing, and paddleboarding. If you're planning to hit the waves, the small, knee-high waves will provide a fun and gentle ride. For swimmers, the calm conditions will make for a relaxing morning in the water. And if you're planning to take a boat out, just a brief note that the offshore coastal-waters forecast indicates a moderate sea state, but for our beachgoers, the nearshore conditions are what matter, and they're looking great.

For our runners and cyclists, the morning conditions are ideal, with a moderate breeze from the north that will keep you cool and challenged. However, don't forget to pack your sun protection, as the UV index forecast peak today is 11, which is extreme, and we recommend minimizing your midday outdoor exposure and taking full protective measures. As the day develops, the wind will remain moderate until the evening, when it will drop to a light breeze, making it perfect for a sunset run or cycle. The consistent conditions will also make for a great day of tennis, with the slightly breezy conditions adding an extra level of challenge to your game.

As we head into the afternoon, the skies will clear, and we'll see mostly clear conditions, perfect for getting outdoors and enjoying the beautiful scenery. By lunchtime, the temperature will have risen to a pleasant 26°C, and the dry conditions will make for a great day of outdoor activities. As the afternoon develops, the conditions will remain ideal, with plenty of sunshine and a gentle breeze. Heading into this evening, the wind will drop to a light breeze, and the skies will remain mostly clear, making for a perfect evening stroll or sunset viewing. So, get out there and make the most of this beautiful day, and don't forget to take care of yourself in the sun. Have a great day, and enjoy all that our stunning coastal area has to offer!

The Setting

The Local Anchor

The modern Jandía lighthouse stands on the beach and forms a clear landmark between the sea and the protected salt-marsh area behind.

Fishing and ferry activity continue to connect Morro Jable with the wider Canary Islands.

This local history gives context to the harbour, promenade and settlement rather than leaving them as anonymous resort scenery.

The Landscape

Pale sand stretches beneath dry volcanic hills, with turquoise shallows and the high Jandía massif inland.

The scale is expansive, especially at low tide, and the beach merges visually into the wider peninsula.

Conditions can differ sharply around an island headland, so a calm-looking bay should not be taken as a guide to every nearby beach.

Morro Jable suits visitors wanting a large beach, town services and access to the wild landscapes of Jandía.

Morning light usually clarifies the landforms, while the later sun brings more colour to rock, buildings and water.

Conditions should be checked at the exact beach being used, because a neighbouring bay or headland may behave quite differently.
