About Papagayo
Papagayo is a collection of celebrated southern Lanzarote coves where pale sand and clear-looking water sit beneath bare volcanic slopes.
The setting feels natural and spacious despite its popularity, with few urban elements immediately behind the beaches.
The coves are often more sheltered than Lanzarote’s open western and northern shores, though conditions and boat traffic still vary.
Rather than offering only one fixed mood, the location changes with season, wind and the movement of people along the waterfront.
Volcanic geology is never far from the surface here, and the contrast between dark land, bright water and dry subtropical light gives the coast its unmistakable Canarian identity.
Today's Beach Report
Saturday, July 11, is shaping up to be a beautiful day, and I'm excited to share the forecast with you. First, let's address the maritime situation: there are no alerts to report, so it's all clear for a wonderful day by the sea. This morning, the clear skies and moderate breeze from the north will make for a refreshing start, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 27°C throughout the day. As the day unfolds, we can expect partly cloudy skies by lunchtime, but overall, it's going to be a fantastic day to get outdoors and enjoy the stunning natural beauty of our surroundings, with a series of secluded golden sand coves to explore.
The beach conditions are looking great, with small, knee-high waves of 0.8m, making it an ideal day for beginners and bodyboarders to catch some waves. The water temperature is a warm 23.2°C, perfect for swimmers, surfers, and paddleboarders to enjoy the Mediterranean conditions. Whether you're a seasoned surfer or just starting out, the calm waves will provide a great opportunity to get in the water and have some fun. For swimmers, the warm water and small waves make it an excellent day for a leisurely swim or some aquatic exercise. Paddleboarders will also appreciate the calm conditions, allowing them to explore the coastline with ease.
For runners and cyclists, the morning conditions are ideal, with a moderate breeze from the north providing a gentle headwind to keep you cool. The dry conditions and clear skies will make for a comfortable ride or run. However, don't forget to pack your sun protection, as the UV index forecast peak today is 11, which is extreme, and full sun protection is mandatory. It's essential to minimise your midday outdoor exposure to avoid any sun-related issues. As the afternoon develops, the partly cloudy skies and continued moderate breeze will provide a pleasant backdrop for outdoor activities like tennis, which may be slightly breezy but still enjoyable.
As we head into the afternoon, the partly cloudy skies will provide a bit of respite from the sun, and the moderate breeze will continue to keep things comfortable. By lunchtime, the conditions will be perfect for a picnic or a break at one of our beautiful beaches. As the afternoon develops, the clouds will start to clear, and we'll be left with mostly clear skies by the evening. The wind will remain steady, making it an excellent evening for a leisurely cycle or a sunset stroll. With the warm temperatures and beautiful scenery, it's shaping up to be a fantastic day to get outdoors and enjoy all that our stunning coastline has to offer. So, make the most of this wonderful Saturday, and get out there to soak up the sun, sea, and scenery – have a great day!

The Setting
The Los Ajaches Natural Monument forms the landscape anchor, an old volcanic massif running along the island’s southeast.
The coast lies near Playa Blanca but remains visually separate from the resort, reached through protected terrain.
The landmark is not simply decorative; it helps orient the coast and connects present-day leisure with earlier patterns of defence, trade or fishing.
Golden sand, ochre rock and turquoise water create a simple, high-contrast scene.
There is little shade and the volcanic ground intensifies heat, making preparation important.
Conditions can differ sharply around an island headland, so a calm-looking bay should not be taken as a guide to every nearby beach.
Papagayo suits visitors seeking scenic coves and walking between beaches rather than a fully serviced promenade day.
The landscape is best appreciated slowly, allowing time for a promenade walk, a viewpoint and a second look at the sea before swimming.
The visual calm of a sunny day should never replace local flags, lifeguard advice or a direct check of waves and currents.
