About Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca is a broad southern Lanzarote resort that has grown from a fishing village into a major ferry and holiday centre.
The promenade links several beaches, the old harbour and Marina Rubicón, producing an easy walking rhythm.
Managed bays such as Playa Dorada are relatively sheltered, while open sections remain influenced by Atlantic wind.
Its appeal comes from balance: enough activity to feel alive, but a landscape and local history that remain readable.
Volcanic geology is never far from the surface here, and the contrast between dark land, bright water and dry subtropical light gives the coast its unmistakable Canarian identity.
Today's Beach Report
Good morning and welcome to Saturday, July 11. There is no maritime alert to report, so we can look forward to a safe and enjoyable day on the water. This morning, the conditions are mostly clear, with a moderate breeze from the north, making it a great time for cycling, albeit with a headwind element. The dry conditions will also make for a pleasant morning for tennis players. As the day unfolds, we can expect plenty of sunshine, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C, making it ideal for a variety of outdoor activities.
The beach conditions are looking great, with small, knee-high waves of 0.8m, perfect for beginners and bodyboarders. The water temperature is a comfortable 22.9°C, making it suitable for swimming, surfing, and paddleboarding. The calm and sheltered water at our resort makes it an ideal spot for these activities, and the dark volcanic sand may intensify sun exposure, so don't forget your sun protection. For those planning to head out to sea, the offshore coastal-waters forecast indicates a moderate breeze, but this shouldn't affect beachgoers.
For runners and cyclists, the morning conditions are ideal, with a moderate breeze from the north that will provide a gentle challenge. However, with an extreme UV index forecast peak of 11, it's essential to take full sun protection measures and minimize midday outdoor exposure. As the afternoon develops, the wind will decrease to a light breeze from the north, making it even more pleasant for outdoor activities like tennis and cycling. The partly cloudy skies will provide some respite from the sun, but don't let that fool you - the UV rays will still be strong, so be sure to take necessary precautions.
As we head into the afternoon, the skies will become partly cloudy, and the wind will remain light, making it a great time to enjoy the outdoors. By lunchtime, the conditions will be perfect for a variety of activities, and as the afternoon develops, the partly cloudy skies will provide some shade. As the evening approaches, the skies will become cloudy, but the temperatures will remain mild, making it a great time to enjoy a leisurely walk or cycle along the promenade. With plenty of sunshine and pleasant conditions, it's shaping up to be a fantastic day, so make the most of it and enjoy all that our beautiful resort has to offer.

The Setting
The view across the Bocaina Strait toward Fuerteventura is the coastal anchor, with ferries reinforcing Playa Blanca’s gateway role.
The older village core remains visible beneath the larger resort, while the nearby Castillo de las Coloradas recalls coastal defence.
Seen from the shore, the anchor provides both a visual reference and a reminder of the community that developed here.
White buildings, dark lava and pale beaches sit below the ancient volcanic massif of Los Ajaches.
The southern light is clear and dry, with Papagayo’s protected coves close to the east.
Conditions can differ sharply around an island headland, so a calm-looking bay should not be taken as a guide to every nearby beach.
Playa Blanca suits travellers wanting a full resort, boat links and several beaches within a walkable coastal strip.
A short walk away from the busiest access point often reveals the geography more clearly and gives a better sense of scale.
Local signs and lifeguard guidance should shape the swimming plan, especially when wind direction changes.
