About Cala del Cuartel

The Vibe

Calas del Cuartel form a small sequence of natural bathing places beneath the Cabo de Santa Pola, where sand, rock and clear Mediterranean water replace the promenades of the town’s urban beaches.

The atmosphere is informal and lightly developed. Visitors come for quiet bathing, snorkelling around the rocky margins and the sense of space created by the cape above. The coves are recognised bathing waters, but they retain a natural appearance and fewer conveniences than Santa Pola’s central beaches.

One part of the official zone includes the Caleta dels Gossets, a designated dog-friendly beach, so visitors should be aware that the character can vary between adjoining sections.

The Setting

Calas del Cuartel — Natural Coves Beneath the Santa Pola Cape

The Local Anchor

The local anchor is the Cabo de Santa Pola, crowned by its lighthouse and viewpoint.

From higher ground, the coast opens towards Tabarca and the wider bay, while the former military setting of the cape explains the name Cuartel. Santa Pola itself provides the fishing port, restaurants and maritime traditions associated with salt, fish and the nearby island.

The town’s harbour remains the practical centre for boat excursions and ferry services to Tabarca.

The Landscape

The official bathing-water code and coordinates place Calas del Cuartel in Santa Pola, not Alicante city.

The zone consists of two Cuartel coves together with the adjoining Caleta dels Gossets. Sand is interrupted by rocky areas, creating varied entries into the water and suitable habitat for shore snorkelling when conditions are calm.

The coves lie within a coastal setting valued for its environmental character and are managed as natural rather than urban beaches. Services are limited, although emergency and water-quality monitoring form part of the official bathing designation.

Their appeal lies in the meeting of cape, rock and sea: a quieter Santa Pola coastline beyond the town’s developed waterfront.
