About Els Peixets

The Vibe

Here, the frenetic energy of Valencia’s main playas dissolves into a serene hush. Els Peixets is a refuge for the contemplative, a stretch of coast where the only rhythm is the gentle lapping of the Mediterranean. The air, thick with the scent of salt and sun-baked earth, carries the distant laughter of a few families rather than the clamor of a crowd. It’s a place of quiet authenticity, where the day unfolds at its own pace. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, a cherished secret among locals who come seeking tranquility on its golden sands. This is a shore for those who prefer the subtle soundtrack of wind and waves, a peaceful counterpoint to the city’s vibrant pulse just a few kilometers away.

The Setting

A Whisper on the Valencian Shore Els Peixets

The Local Anchor

Steps from the sand stands the Ermita dels Peixets, a small, neo-Gothic chapel that anchors the beach to a centuries-old miracle. Legend whispers of a 14th-century event where fish miraculously returned consecrated wafers to a priest after they were lost in the waters of the Carraixet ravine. This seaside sanctuary, built in 1901, imbues the area with a quiet reverence. The beach’s soul is also tied to the fertile Huerta de Alboraya, the agricultural heartland famous for cultivating the chufa (tiger nut). This tradition culminates in the iconic local drink, horchata, a refreshingly sweet, milky beverage best enjoyed with a sugary pastry called a farton.

The Landscape

Els Peixets presents a more rugged, untouched beauty compared to its urbanized neighbors. It is a natural landscape where fine golden sand mingles with smooth gravel and low-lying dunes, sculpted by the sea breeze. The beach is nestled at the mouth of the Barranco del Carraixet, a ravine that carves its way to the sea, adding a wilder character to the coastline. This semi-urban setting, framed by coastal greenery, offers an unspoiled panorama of the azure Mediterranean. It is a rare, unmanicured jewel, a testament to the raw and enduring allure of the Valencian coast.
