About Playa de la Nova Mar Bella
The beach attracts a mix of young visitors, families and local residents. Volleyball courts, beach bars and the wide promenade add activity, but the overall mood is more relaxed than at Somorrostro or central Barceloneta. There is usually enough space to move away from the busiest access points.
Swimming conditions depend on wind, swell and the state of the sea. The breakwaters can make sections appear protected, yet currents and short waves still develop. Visitors should follow flags, use supervised areas and avoid swimming close to rocks.

The Setting
Nova Mar Bella is a spacious urban beach on Barcelona's north-eastern waterfront, between Mar Bella and Llevant. It was created during the Olympic-era transformation of the coast and now serves the Sant Marti district with fine sand, easy access and a generally calmer atmosphere than the beaches closer to Barceloneta.
Sant Marti and Poblenou provide the neighbourhood context. The coast here is backed by modern housing, parks and wide avenues rather than the dense historic streets found around Port Vell. Rambla del Poblenou and the district's restaurants are within reach, while Diagonal Mar lies farther north.
The beach is part of the continuous public waterfront created around the 1992 Games. Walking south leads towards Mar Bella and Bogatell; heading north continues towards Llevant and the Forum area.
Nova Mar Bella forms a broad arc of sand held between engineered breakwaters. The Mediterranean horizon remains open, while landscaped promenades, cycle routes and modern buildings define the rear view.
There are no natural cliffs or old fishing structures to create drama. Instead, the landscape is spacious and planned, with generous sand, clear access and a sense of distance from the most crowded central waterfront. The beach works especially well for visitors who want Barcelona's sea without the historic neighbourhood intensity of Barceloneta.
Its appeal is subtle rather than monumental. Nova Mar Bella offers room, straightforward facilities and a long view across the water, showing the residential and contemporary side of Barcelona's coast.
