The Vibe

Playa de Poniente offers a calmer expression of Benidorm, stretching west from the old town in a broad curve of fine golden sand.

The atmosphere is still unmistakably urban, but it feels less intense than Levante. Families, residents and long-stay visitors spread across a shoreline wide enough to absorb summer crowds, while open-water swimmers use the more sheltered section near Elche Park.

The promenade remains lively throughout the day, yet its generous scale allows quieter moments: early walks beside a smooth sea, children playing well back from the water and evening light moving across the bay.

The Local Anchor

Poniente is anchored at its eastern end by Benidorm’s old town and small harbour.

The headland separates it from Levante, while the western end continues towards La Cala and neighbouring Finestrat. This long curve reveals the city from a different perspective, with the skyline receding behind the beach rather than rising directly above every section.

The modern promenade, designed as a flowing band of colour between city and sand, has become one of Benidorm’s defining public spaces.

The Landscape

Poniente is Benidorm’s largest beach, extending for approximately 3.1 kilometres.

Its average width is around 74 metres, reaching more than 100 metres at its broadest point. Fine golden sand and generally manageable bathing conditions make it widely used by families, although beach flags and lifeguard advice remain essential.

Facilities include two accessible bathing points, lifeguards, toilets, foot-washing stations, children’s and sports areas, loungers, parasols, a beach library and a marked swimming lane.

Poniente’s strongest quality is space: a fully serviced city beach that feels broad, open and noticeably more relaxed than Benidorm’s eastern shore.
