The Vibe

Banda do Río is Bueu’s central urban beach, a sheltered strip of fine white sand where the town opens directly onto the calm waters of the Ría de Pontevedra.

The atmosphere is lively and unmistakably local. Children move between the beach and the play area behind it, residents cross the promenade and fishing boats work close to the harbour. Offshore, the lines of mussel rafts create the characteristic geometry of the ría.

It is not a secluded shore, but its calm water and close connection with the town give it the ease of a shared public space.

The Local Anchor

The Estaleiro de Purro is the beach’s most distinctive local anchor.

Standing beside Banda do Río, this traditional riverside shipyard was founded in 1920 and became the last active wooden boatbuilding yard of its kind in the Rías Baixas. Its rehabilitation preserves the tools, structure and memory of the carpenters who built working vessels for the local maritime community.

The fishing port, market and nearby traditional-boat pontoon reinforce this connection between beach and seafaring life.

The Landscape

Banda do Río extends for approximately 250 metres and averages around 20 metres wide.

Its surface is fine white sand and the bathing water is generally calm. The beach is fully urban, with the port immediately to one side and the town directly behind it.

Showers, bins, cleaning, a small sports area and a children’s playground provide practical support. The promenade makes access straightforward on foot.

Banda do Río’s identity comes from what surrounds it: mussel farms ahead, fishing harbour beside it and a historic wooden shipyard preserving Bueu’s maritime craft at the edge of the sand.
