About Melide

The Vibe

Melide is a pale sandy beach at Cabo Home, facing the entrance to the Ría de Vigo with the Cíes Islands appearing strikingly close across the water.

The atmosphere is spacious and elemental. Fine sand, dunes and pinewood form a natural enclosure, while wind and moderate waves remind visitors that this is the outer coast rather than a sheltered town beach.

Walkers arrive along the Cabo Home routes, swimmers use the clearer settled periods and divers explore the rocky margins. Even at its busiest, the landscape remains stronger than the visitor infrastructure.

The Setting

Melide — The Cíes Across the Water

The Local Anchor

Cabo Home is the defining local anchor.

Three lighthouses mark this exposed corner of O Morrazo: Cabo Home, Punta Robaleira and Punta Subrido. Together they frame the sea routes approaching the Ría de Vigo and provide a sequence of viewpoints towards the Cíes.

Farther inland, Monte do Facho preserves archaeological remains and a wide view over the Costa da Vela. The parish of Santo André de O Hío provides the nearest village identity, while Cangas lies beyond the protected coast.

The Landscape

Melide is approximately 250 metres long.

Fine white-to-golden sand occupies the shore between Punta Fuxiño and Punta Robaleira. A dune system and pinewood rise behind it, and the beach forms part of the protected Costa da Vela landscape within the Natura 2000 network.

Parking is available nearby, but the setting remains natural rather than urban. Official tourism information records moderate waves, windy conditions and a recognised diving area.

Melide’s strongest feature is its outlook: sand and pines in the foreground, lighthouse points at either side and the Cíes standing across the mouth of the ría.
