The Local Anchor

Standing sentinel over the sands is the Faro de Lariño, a lighthouse built between 1913 and 1921 that has guided ships through these treacherous waters for a century. Today, it houses a small hotel and the "El Ariete" tavern, a name steeped in local heroism. It honours the villagers who rescued the entire crew of the frigate Ariete when it ran aground in 1966. This spirit of the sea is best tasted in the local fare; after a day battling the waves, seek out a plate of fresh zamburiñas (scallops) or octopus caught off this very coast, a flavour as deep and authentic as the history that surrounds you.
