Playa Cala Reona

Cala Reona feels active, scenic and more rugged than the long urban beaches of La Manga. Swimmers and snorkellers use the sandy central section, walkers begin or finish coastal routes and visitors gather near the recognised access. The cove is small, so space tightens quickly in summer.

The beach faces direct Mediterranean conditions and can receive waves when easterly wind strengthens. Rocky margins add underwater interest in settled weather, although footwear and careful entry are useful. Facilities are limited compared with Playa de Levante, and the fully exposed shore offers little natural shade.

Cala Reona is a compact sandy cove on the eastern side of Cabo de Palos beside the protected Calblanque coastline. Its open Mediterranean water, rocky margins and direct access to walking routes make it a popular meeting point between a residential cape and a much wilder natural park.

Cabo de Palos village and its lighthouse lie immediately south. The fishing harbour, seafood restaurants and diving centres connect Cala Reona with the Islas Hormigas marine reserve, one of the region's most important underwater landscapes.

Westward, trails enter the Calblanque regional park through old mining ground, dry scrub and coastal viewpoints. The GR92 and local walking routes use Cala Reona as a practical access point between Cabo de Palos and the protected shore.

Fine sand occupies a compact curve between dark rocky slopes and low residential development. The Mediterranean opens eastward, while dry hills and mining-coloured ground rise behind the cove.

Southward, streets lead back towards the lighthouse and harbour. Westward, buildings disappear into Calblanque's cliffs, dunes and scrub. Cala Reona is defined by its threshold position: a usable sandy cove where developed Cabo de Palos gives way abruptly to protected rock, paths and open sea. The cove also marks the eastern end of a recognised hiking route through Calblanque, so walkers often arrive carrying more equipment than ordinary beach visitors. Early morning provides cooler conditions on the exposed paths and the best chance of finding space.
