The Vibe

Sa Caleta d’en Gorries is a very small sandy cove on the southern edge of Ciutadella, set beside the entrance to Cala Santandria. Its reduced scale gives the beach an intimate feel, although nearby homes and holiday accommodation make it a well-used local and visitor shore.

The water is generally described as calm, clear and gently shelving. Low rock and vegetation frame the sand, while the cove faces towards the south-west and west. It is a place defined by closeness: the beach, cliffs and surrounding buildings all occupy a compact space, with little distance between the residential coast and the sea.

The Local Anchor

Above the neighbouring shoreline stands Torre des Castellar, an eighteenth-century coastal watchtower. Its position recalls the defensive network once used to observe approaches to Menorca, and it now provides a clear historic reference for this otherwise modern coastal district.

Ciutadella is only about two kilometres away, while Cala Santandria lies immediately beside the cove. Sa Caleta therefore sits between the historic city and a chain of settled beaches extending south along the coast.

The Landscape

The official Menorca tourism description uses both Caleta d’en Gorries and Sa Caleta for this beach. It occupies the right-hand side of Cala Santandria’s entrance and is bordered by low, abrupt cliffs topped with vegetation and residences.

The sandy slope is gentle, and the inner water is suitable mainly for small boats; larger craft are directed towards the broader shelter of Cala Santandria. Road access is easy, with free parking nearby and public transport available. Listed facilities include showers, toilets, rescue service and food outlets. Despite those services, the landscape remains simple and contained: a short sandy pocket beneath low rock, with Torre des Castellar anchoring the wider view.
