Zurriola

The Vibe

Zurriola has a younger, more energetic pulse than the beaches across the bay. Open to Atlantic swell and set beside the Gros district, it is a place of boards, movement, and wide horizons.

Surfers study the water from the sand, runners follow the promenade, and groups gather near the sea wall as the day moves towards evening. The beach feels lively even outside summer because its identity is tied not only to sunbathing, but also to sport and neighbourhood life.

The Kursaal’s glass forms stand at one end like modern beacons. Together with the busy streets of Gros, they give Zurriola a distinctly contemporary character: less ceremonial than La Concha, more spontaneous, and closely connected to the weather and waves.

Zurriola — Surf and City Light

The Local Anchor

Gros is the local anchor. Its cafés, pintxo bars, bakeries, and small restaurants extend the beach atmosphere inland, making it easy to move from surf to city without any break in rhythm.

The Kursaal Auditorium and Congress Centre gives the waterfront a cultural dimension, particularly during festivals and major events. Zurriola therefore belongs equally to San Sebastián’s surf scene and its creative public life.

The Landscape

Zurriola lies beyond the protection of La Concha Bay, facing more directly towards the Cantabrian Sea. Its broad sand and exposed orientation create a changing shoreline, with conditions that can shift quickly according to swell, wind, and tide.

The beach is urban, but the view remains expansive. To the east, the coast leads towards Ulia; to the west, the Urumea river and the city centre are close at hand.

Zurriola is a beach of momentum — a meeting place where Atlantic energy, modern architecture, and the sociable streets of Gros come together.
