About Ézaro

The Vibe

O Ézaro is an open beach where fine sand, rock and wind meet the mouth of the River Xallas beneath the steep granite slopes of Monte Pindo.

The atmosphere is both maritime and riverine. Small boats occupy the sheltered inlet, walkers follow the waterfront towards the river and the beach opens westward towards the Atlantic and distant Cabo Fisterra.

Wind is a regular feature and moderate waves can reach the shore, giving the beach more movement than the calm appearance of the estuary may initially suggest.

The Local Anchor

The defining local anchor is the Fervenza do Ézaro.

A short distance inland, the River Xallas descends over rock in a waterfall that reaches the sea at the head of the inlet. A pedestrian route begins near the small port at the western end of the beach and follows the river towards the waterfall and hydroelectric station.

Across the water, Monte Pindo forms a monumental granite wall, while the village of O Ézaro provides restaurants, harbour activity and a compact coastal centre.

The Landscape

Turismo de Galicia records the beach at approximately 730 metres, while other official listings give a slightly longer measurement according to the section included.

Fine sand forms the principal shore, with rocky areas and the river mouth adding variety. The beach is urban but remains visually dominated by mountain, estuary and open sea.

Showers, foot-washing points, bins, cleaning, tourist information and accessible routes are provided during the managed season.

O Ézaro’s character comes from convergence: river and ocean, village and harbour, pale beach and dark granite all meeting within one of the Costa da Morte’s most recognisable landscapes.
