About Malkorbe
The Vibe
Malkorbe is a compact, sheltered-feeling beach beside the harbour of Getaria. Its atmosphere is easy and practical, with families, swimmers, and people moving between the sand and the waterfront.
The great shape of San Antón, often called the Mouse of Getaria, dominates the view and gives even a simple beach day a memorable silhouette. Boats, harbour walls, and the close townscape make the beach feel protected from the scale of the open coast.
Malkorbe is not about isolation. Its pleasure comes from being embedded in one of the Basque coast’s most characterful fishing towns.
The Setting
Malkorbe — A Harbour Beach in Getaria
The Local Anchor
Getaria is the local anchor in every sense. The harbour is known for grilled fish cooked over outdoor charcoal grills, while the surrounding hills support vineyards producing Getariako Txakolina.
The medieval streets also preserve the memory of navigator Juan Sebastián Elcano, born in the town. Food, seafaring history, and the beach sit within a few minutes’ walk of one another.
The Landscape
Malkorbe is one of Getaria’s two sandy beaches and lies close to the eastern side of the harbour. The breakwaters and headland help create a more enclosed visual setting than nearby open beaches.
San Antón rises behind the port, while the coast towards Zarautz stretches away to the east. The beach is urban in position but framed by strong natural forms.
Malkorbe is best understood as a harbour-side pause — a small, sociable shore held between fishing boats, vineyards, and the volcanic-looking profile of San Antón.
