About Xagó
The Vibe
Xagó is a broad, powerful beach where wind and waves dominate the mood. Its long sand and open exposure make it popular with surfers, walkers, and visitors seeking space rather than urban convenience.
The atmosphere is vigorous and natural. Even on sunny days, the sea can remain energetic, and conditions may vary along the two-kilometre shore. This is a beach to observe carefully before entering the water.
Away from the main accesses, Xagó feels expansive and lightly inhabited. The dunes and high sky create a sense of distance unusual so close to central Asturias.

The Local Anchor
The Cabo Peñas area and the fishing town of Luanco provide the local anchor. Gozón’s identity is shaped by open coast, small ports, farming, and maritime traditions.
Seafood, cider, local fish, and Luanco’s marañuelas connect the wild beach with nearby community life. Surf schools also use Xagó’s waves, strengthening its active coastal identity.
The Landscape
Xagó extends for roughly two kilometres and is backed by an important system of wind-formed dunes. Golden sand faces the open Cantabrian Sea with little natural shelter.
Rocky headlands close the bay at either end, while inland vegetation and dune ridges separate the beach from roads and settlement. Strong swell and wind are characteristic features.
Xagó is best understood as a beach of elemental scale — a long dune coast where the landscape is written by moving sand, Atlantic weather, and persistent surf.
