About Laga
The Vibe
Laga feels wild without being unreachable. Its golden sand lies beneath the great limestone presence of Cape Ogoño, creating one of the most dramatic beach settings in Urdaibai.
The mood changes with the sea. On calmer days, the wide shore invites long walks and family time; when swell arrives, surfers and bodyboarders become part of the landscape. The beach remains open to the Atlantic, so beauty and exposure belong together here.
Away from the busiest access points, dunes and open sand restore a sense of space. The atmosphere is natural, bright, and wind-shaped, with little to interrupt the relationship between cliff, beach, and water.

Laga — Dunes Beneath Cape Ogoño
The Local Anchor
The local anchor is the Urdaibai estuary and the small coastal communities around Ibarrangelu and nearby Elantxobe. Fishing traditions, steep village streets, and the wooded countryside give the beach a distinctly local context.
Food in the area follows the Basque maritime pattern: grilled fish, seasonal shellfish, pintxos, and produce from the surrounding rural landscape. The experience of Laga is therefore connected to both coast and countryside.
The Landscape
Laga is a dune beach within the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. Cape Ogoño rises at its eastern end, while the western view opens towards the estuary mouth and the offshore island of Izaro.
The beach has an exposed north-facing character and receives Atlantic swell. Its dunes are environmentally sensitive and should be crossed only by designated routes.
Laga is a landscape of clean, strong contrasts — pale sand, green slopes, dark rock, and restless blue water beneath one of the Basque coast’s most recognisable headlands.
