The Vibe

S’Estanyol is a small urban beach within Cala de Bou, on the southern side of the bay of Sant Antoni. Its scale is intimate, but its surroundings are distinctly developed, with accommodation, roads and local services close to the water.

Because Sant Antoni de Portmany lies across the bay and provides the nearest well-known place-name, the beach is easily assigned to the wrong municipality. The coordinate is in Sant Josep de sa Talaia, at the first section of that municipality’s coastline within Cala de Bou.

The Local Anchor

Cala de Bou forms a continuous visitor district around the southern shore of Sant Antoni Bay. S’Estanyol belongs to this urban ribbon, yet its small beach gives the neighbourhood a more local point of contact with the sea than the larger resort frontages nearby.

Views extend across the bay towards Sant Antoni, while road signs from that town direct visitors through Cala de Bou to the beach. This approach explains the frequent confusion: the route begins in Sant Antoni, but the destination lies beyond the municipal boundary in Sant Josep.

The Landscape

Sant Josep’s official tourism information describes a beach approximately 150 metres long and 15 metres wide, with medium-grain pale sand mixed with some rocky areas. The seabed is sandy close to shore and slopes gradually, while the cove faces west and is protected from stronger winds by its position inside the bay.

Access is possible on foot, by bicycle or by car, with public transport stopping farther away. Seasonal sunbed and umbrella rental, refreshments and water activities reflect the urban setting. The landscape remains modest rather than dramatic: a narrow band of sand, shallow bay water and a built shoreline, held together by the wider curve of Sant Antoni Bay.
