About Ses Salines
The Vibe
Platja de ses Salines is open and social, yet its setting belongs to one of Ibiza’s most important protected landscapes.
The beach faces south across clear water and pale sand, with an active seasonal atmosphere near its services and quieter stretches towards the ends. Behind the shore, dunes and juniper woodland soften the transition towards the salt landscape inland. It is an open coast rather than a deeply enclosed cove, and conditions must be read from the day’s wind, sea and official flags.

The Setting
Platja de ses Salines — Sand, Salt and Protected Dunes
The Local Anchor
Ses Salines takes its name and identity from the salt ponds that have shaped the southern end of Ibiza for centuries. The nearby settlement of Sant Francesc de s’Estany and its small church are linked to the people who worked in salt extraction, while the ponds remain both a working landscape and an important habitat for waterbirds.
The wider natural park extends across southern Ibiza, northern Formentera and the sea between them. Its protected status reflects the close relationship between salterns, dunes, coastal woodland, marine habitats and migratory birds.
The Landscape
Sant Josep’s tourism authority records a beach about 1,500 metres long and 25 to 30 metres wide, with fine, naturally light-coloured sand. The seabed is predominantly sandy and increases in depth gradually. Dunes and mature junipers line the back of the beach, although developed access and seasonal businesses are present near the main arrival points.
The paved approach comes through Sant Jordi de ses Salines towards the area known as sa Canal, with public transport and cycling also used in season. At the eastern end, a coastal walk continues towards the seventeenth-century Torre de ses Portes. The result is a landscape where recreation, salt history and environmental protection remain visibly intertwined.
