About Port d'en Perris

The Vibe

Port d’en Perris is a tiny urban beach set into the old waterfront of L’Escala, where sand, rounded stones, and calm water meet the town almost at the edge of the street.

Its scale creates an intimate atmosphere. Swimmers enter from a shore only a few metres long, while walkers pause above the water and small boats move across the bay. The beach is neither remote nor spacious, but it offers an immediate connection with the Mediterranean at the heart of the old town.

The soundscape blends gentle water, conversation from nearby terraces, and the activity of a seafront that has been used for generations.

The Setting

Port d’en Perris — L’Escala in Miniature

The Local Anchor

L’Escala’s identity is inseparable from fishing and the preservation of anchovies.

Salting workshops developed around the old port and waterfront, turning local fish into a product now recognised far beyond the town. Anchovies remain the clearest culinary connection, served simply with bread, tomato, and olive oil or incorporated into Catalan dishes.

Nearby streets, the old salt warehouse, and the fishing quarter preserve this maritime history, while the Greco-Roman site of Empúries lies farther along the coast.

The Landscape

Port d’en Perris measures only about 30 metres long and 15 metres wide.

The beach combines pebbles and sand and is officially described as having calm water. Buildings, roads, and terraces enclose the shore, giving it a fully urban character.

Showers, bins, cleaning, and easy pedestrian access provide basic convenience. The modern marina lies farther away, leaving Port d’en Perris connected more strongly to L’Escala’s old waterfront than to contemporary harbour infrastructure.

Its appeal lies in concentration: town, history, food, and sea gathered into one remarkably small cove.
