The Vibe

La Caleta is a small, sheltered cove of fine pebbles and gravel, held between low hills south of La Vila Joiosa.

The atmosphere is calm and self-contained. Palm trees and Mediterranean vegetation soften the backdrop, while clear water around the rocky margins makes the cove appealing for careful snorkelling during settled conditions.

It is close enough to the town to be easily reached, yet the enclosing landscape gives it greater separation than the long urban beach at the centre of La Vila.

The Local Anchor

The local anchor is La Vila Joiosa, the colourful fishing town a little over two kilometres to the north.

Its old quarter rises above the River Amadorio in rows of brightly painted houses once used by fishing families as visible landmarks from the sea. The working fishing port, chocolate-making tradition and annual Moors and Christians celebrations give the town an identity extending far beyond the beach.

La Caleta provides a quieter counterpart to this lively centre.

The Landscape

The municipal tourism service gives La Caleta a length of approximately 139 metres.

Its shore is composed of fine pebbles and gravel rather than conventional sand. Palm trees stand close to the beach, with Mediterranean shrubs covering the surrounding ground.

Seasonal services include lifeguards, toilets, foot-washing points, walkways, parking, loungers, parasols and a beach bar. The bathing area is marked, and water quality is regularly monitored.

La Caleta’s appeal lies in enclosure and clarity: a short stone cove, green at the back and transparent at the edge of the Mediterranean.
