The Vibe

Varadero belongs to a short sequence of small coves beside La Vila Joiosa’s fishing port, where pebbles, gravel and patches of sand create a more rugged shore than Playa Centro.

The atmosphere is relaxed and lightly urban. The promenade follows the foot of the cliffs, summer beach bars bring a little activity and the transparent water attracts swimmers and snorkellers during calm conditions.

Each cove has a slightly different character, so the shoreline feels varied despite its modest scale.

The Local Anchor

The immediate local anchor is the fishing port of La Vila Joiosa.

Boats, harbour buildings and the fish auction preserve the town’s working maritime identity, while the old coloured houses remain visible farther along the coast. Local restaurants draw directly on this connection through fresh fish, seafood and rice dishes.

Varadero takes its name from an old boat slipway once located here, and surviving pieces still recall the practical use of the shore before it became primarily recreational.

The Landscape

The Varadero group includes three adjoining coves: Varadero, Estudiants and Tio Roig.

Municipal tourism information describes each as roughly 130 metres long. Varadero is the broadest and combines pebbles, gravel and sand; Estudiants is narrower, with fine stones and clear water; Tio Roig is rockier and more open to the sea.

A wide pedestrian route provides access along the cliff base. Seasonal services include supervision, toilets, cleaning and nearby refreshments.

The registered BWID corresponds to Playa de Varadero.

Its landscape is a working coast transformed gently for leisure: old slipway, fishing port, clear water and three small shores arranged beneath the cliffs.
