About El Charco

The Vibe

Playa del Charco is a compact natural beach on the Águilas coast, reached away from the urban waterfront and held within the dry, open landscape around Cope.

The cove is modest in scale, with golden sand and the Mediterranean filling most of the view. There is little here to distract from the shoreline itself. The absence of a built promenade and the rural approach create a quieter atmosphere, while its recognised naturist use gives the beach an informal character.

This is a shore for visitors prepared to leave the main road and accept a simpler coastal setting.

The Setting

Playa del Charco — A Small Cove Below Cabo Cope

The Local Anchor

The nearest reference point is Cope, east of Águilas, beneath the wider landscape of Cabo Cope and the Marina de Cope. This part of the municipality retains long sections of undeveloped coast, with low mountains, dry ravines and small beaches reached by local tracks.

The BWID and coordinates are important because the CSV assigned the beach to Lorca. Official bathing-water and regional tourism records place Playa del Charco in Águilas, distinguishing it from the neighbouring protected coast farther north within Lorca municipality.

The Landscape

Regional tourism information describes Playa del Charco as approximately 160 metres long and 14 metres wide, with medium-grained golden sand and a natural protected setting. The beach is associated with preferred naturist use and has no urban promenade.

Access is from the Cuesta de Gos road, followed by a rural, unpaved track towards the coast. Official information does not list a developed service area, so the beach should be approached as a lightly equipped natural cove rather than a managed resort beach. Its defining elements are simple and clear: a small arc of sand, dry coastal terrain and the open Mediterranean below Cabo Cope.
