About Granada

The Vibe

Playa Granada stretches west of Motril’s main waterfront, where dark sand meets a landscape of golf fairways, low houses, and fertile coastal fields.

The mood is spacious and quietly polished. Holiday homes and restaurants sit close to the shore, yet the beach remains open enough for long walks and broad views. On clear days, the distant relief of Sierra Nevada appears inland, creating an unusual link between Mediterranean water and high mountain country.

Moderate waves give the beach a steady rhythm. It is popular in summer, but its length prevents the atmosphere from becoming uniformly crowded.

The Setting

Playa Granada — Tropical Fields Beneath Sierra Nevada

The Local Anchor

The local anchor is Motril and the rich plain of the Río Guadalfeo.

This fertile basin supports the subtropical agriculture for which the Costa Tropical is known, including avocados, mangoes, and custard apples. The area also preserves the memory of sugar-cane cultivation, once central to Motril’s economy and landscape.

Restaurants near the beach combine this agricultural setting with the sea, offering fish, seafood, rice dishes, and local produce.

The Landscape

Playa Granada extends for roughly 1.45 kilometres, though it remains relatively narrow at around 20 metres in average width.

Its sand is dark, and the shore is open to moderate Mediterranean waves. A golf course lies immediately behind part of the beach, while low residential buildings and cultivated ground soften the transition inland.

Seasonal lifeguards, showers, toilets, sun-lounger rental, and nautical equipment make it fully serviced. Its strongest feature is the setting: dark sand below, tropical fields behind, and the mountains of Granada beyond the coastal plain.
