About Barreiriño

The Vibe

Barreiriño is one of the smallest beaches on the San Vicente do Grove coast, a compact pocket of white sand lying beside Barcela among granite outcrops and low coastal vegetation.

The atmosphere is quiet and intimate. Its limited size means that only a modest number of visitors can change the character of the shore, yet the absence of a dense promenade keeps it feeling natural rather than crowded.

The water can carry moderate Atlantic movement despite the cove’s sheltered appearance, so bathing should always follow the conditions visible from the sand.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

The local anchor is San Vicente do Grove and the western coastline of the O Grove peninsula.

This shore is formed from a close sequence of coves, rocky points and walking routes leading towards O Carreiro and the archaeological landscape of Adro Vello. Farther east, O Grove’s port and shellfish culture provide the municipality’s strongest maritime identity, shaped by fishing, shore gathering and mussel cultivation across the Ría de Arousa.

Barreiriño belongs to the quieter outer edge of that seafaring territory.

The Landscape

Official sources measure Barreiriño at approximately 50 to 68 metres, depending on the limits used.

The surface is fine white sand and the beach is classified as isolated, although access on foot or by car is straightforward. Granite rock encloses parts of the shore and distinguishes it from the longer beaches nearby.

Bins and seasonal cleaning are the principal recorded services. Pedras Negras marina lies several kilometres away, so there is no direct harbour infrastructure at the beach.

Barreiriño’s identity comes from scale: a short ribbon of pale sand beside Barcela, held between rock and the open coastal light of San Vicente.
