About Gran de Palamós

An expansive sweep of fine, golden sand, Gran de Palamós is the vibrant heart of this proud Costa Brava town. Here, the rhythm of the day is set by the sun and the sea, a place where generations of local families mingle with sun-seeking travellers, creating a tapestry of relaxed, convivial energy.

The Vibe

The air hums with a distinctly Catalan melody—the cheerful chatter of families, the gentle clinking of glasses from bustling promenade cafés, and the distant cries of gulls circling the fishing fleet. A scent of salt and pine hangs in the breeze, mingling with the irresistible aroma of grilled seafood. The atmosphere is one of effortless leisure, where the day unfolds without hurry. Children’s laughter punctuates the soft murmur of the waves, creating a soundtrack to a timeless Mediterranean summer. It's a shore that feels alive, breathing in sync with the town it serves.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

The soul of Palamós is anchored to its fishing port, one of the most important in Catalonia, nestled at the northern end of the beach. This is the home of the famed Gamba de Palamós, the exquisite red prawn celebrated in kitchens throughout Spain. The town's identity is inseparable from the sea's bounty, a history beautifully narrated within the nearby Fishing Museum. Each afternoon, the return of the fishing boats is a ritual, leading to the lively fish auction—a spectacle of tradition that supplies the beachfront restaurants with their unparalleled fresh catch.

The Landscape

The beach curves gracefully along a wide bay, its generous expanse of sand meeting the clear, calm waters ideal for sailing. A handsome promenade, the Passeig del Mar, traces the coastline, inviting strolls towards the neighbouring town of Sant Antoni de Calonge. To one side, the marina bustles with white sails, while inland, the historic old town rises, its 15th-century Church of Santa Maria a steadfast guardian. This is a landscape of delightful contrasts: the soft, urbanised shore giving way to the rugged cliffs and hidden coves that define the wild heart of the Costa Brava.
