About A Canteira
The Vibe
A Canteira is a compact sheltered beach on the edge of Combarro, where fine white sand meets the calm inner waters of the Ría de Pontevedra.
The atmosphere is quiet but never disconnected from village life. A promenade links the beach with the surrounding streets, and the outlines of houses, boats and the opposite shore remain close across the water.
Its small scale gives it an intimate character. The beach is better suited to a short swim, a pause beside the ría or a gentle walk than to the broad activities of a large resort shore.

The Setting
A Canteira — A Small Beach Below Combarro
The Local Anchor
Combarro is the defining local anchor.
The historic village is built directly on granite beside the sea and is celebrated for its seafaring houses, stone crosses and exceptional group of hórreos, many standing immediately above the tidal edge. Its narrow lanes and waterfront architecture preserve the relationship between farming, fishing and domestic life that shaped traditional coastal Galicia.
A Canteira sits just outside this celebrated centre, connected to it by the promenade and the same sheltered ría.
The Landscape
Turismo de Galicia records A Canteira as approximately 100 metres long.
The beach has fine sand and is classified as sheltered. Turismo Rías Baixas describes it as a small natural white-sand beach bounded by a promenade linking it with urban Combarro.
The shoreline is modest and can change significantly with the tide, a common feature of the inner Rías Baixas. There is no large dune system or exposed Atlantic frontage.
Its strongest feature is proximity: a natural pocket of sand within walking distance of one of Galicia’s most distinctive historic fishing villages.
A Canteira’s landscape is therefore both simple and layered—calm water ahead, granite beneath the village and Combarro’s hórreos rising close to the shore.
