About Campelo

The Vibe

Campelo is a sheltered urban beach beside one of Poio’s principal maritime communities, where fine sand and calm ría water meet the activity of a small harbour.

The atmosphere is practical and local. Fishing boats, shellfish work and the movement around the quay remain part of the view, while the beach provides a quieter place to sit or bathe when tide and local conditions allow.

It is not separated from village life by dunes or cliffs. Campelo feels like an extension of the waterfront itself, shared by residents, walkers and visitors exploring the inner Ría de Pontevedra.

The Setting

Campelo — Sand Beside Poio’s Working Harbour

The Local Anchor

The port and fish market are the defining local anchors.

Campelo’s lonxa handles the display and auction of fish and shellfish, reflecting the village’s continuing relationship with the productive waters of the ría. The community is particularly associated with clams, celebrated through Poio’s long-established Festa da Ameixa.

This working identity distinguishes Campelo from nearby Combarro, whose waterfront is better known for historic architecture and hórreos.

The Landscape

Turismo de Galicia records Campelo beach as approximately 200 metres long.

The surface is fine sand and the beach is classified as sheltered. Its position inside the ría usually limits heavy wave action, although the available sand and water depth change noticeably with the tide.

The harbour, fish market and village streets lie close behind the shore. There is no extensive natural dune system or isolated coastal backdrop.

Access is straightforward by road and on foot, and the urban setting places everyday services nearby.

Campelo’s identity comes from function: a calm sandy edge beside a working port, with the shellfish economy of the Ría de Pontevedra present in the boats, market and community surrounding it.
