Chancelas, Rías Baixas
The Local Anchor
Just a short, reflective stroll away lies the soul of the region: the historic fishing village of Combarro. This labyrinth of granite and charm is defined by its iconic hórreos, ancient grain stores perched on stone pillars at the water's edge, their silhouettes a testament to Galicia’s enduring heritage. The true taste of this coast is found in Combarro’s waterfront taverns, where the day’s catch is transformed into sublime tapas. Savour fresh mussels and glistening scallops, perfectly paired with a glass of crisp, local Albariño wine, the celebrated vintage of the Rías Baixas.
The Landscape
Nature has sculpted Chancelas into a perfect, protective crescent of fine, pale sand. Its unique half-shell shape creates a natural shield against the wind, ensuring the waters of the Ría de Pontevedra remain placid and invitingly clear. Though the Atlantic’s touch is refreshingly cool, the gentle slope of the seabed offers a calm welcome. Across the shimmering expanse, the mythical Isla de Tambo floats in the haze, a silent guardian of the estuary. Backed by lush, wooded hills and discreet homes, the beach feels like a secret garden opening directly onto the sea.
