About Playa a Gafa
The scale is intimate and practical. A Gafa works well for a short beach visit, a pause during a coastal walk or a alternative to the larger sands nearby. Because both ends are close at hand, the beach feels enclosed even though its official classification is open. The atmosphere is linked to nearby homes and summer life around Portosin, not to an isolated wilderness.
Water inside the ria can appear calmer than on Porto do Son's outer coast, but wind, tide and boat movement still matter. The sensible approach is to treat A Gafa as a real coastal bathing place rather than assuming that its small size guarantees gentle conditions.

The Setting
A Gafa is a compact fine-sand beach in the place of the same name, within the parish of San Martino de Minortos in Porto do Son. Official Galician tourism information records an open beach of about 85 metres at 42.7648 north and -8.9425 west. It sits close to Portosin on the southern shore of the Ria de Muros e Noia, giving visitors a small local beach rather than a broad Atlantic strand.
Portosin is the strongest nearby reference. Its harbour supports fishing activity and a well-established nautical tradition, while the village provides the cafes, streets and services absent from the sand itself. A Gafa remains part of Minortos, however, and its local identity is tied to the small settlement immediately behind the beach.
Ornanda lies just to the north beyond the Punta Batuda area, while Coira and the Portosin waterfront extend southward. These neighbouring beaches are close, but each has a different scale and relationship with the built coast.
A short curve of fine sand is set between low rocky margins. Green slopes and scattered development rise behind it, while the view reaches across the ria toward the northern shore. At lower tide the usable beach expands and the rocks become more pronounced; at higher water the strand feels notably compact. Morning and late-afternoon light often emphasise the sheltered geography, picking out successive headlands rather than a single open horizon.
