About Cala Cerrada

The Vibe

Cala Cerrada is a compact curve of golden sand on the eastern edge of Pulpí’s coastline, where low rocky ground shelters calm water from much of the open Mediterranean movement.

The beach feels natural and lightly equipped, but it is not always empty. Its small size means that even a modest summer gathering can fill the available sand, particularly when settled weather draws visitors from San Juan de los Terreros and nearby Águilas.

The atmosphere remains simple: clear shallows, warm rock, and the muted sound of water entering a protected cove.

The Local Anchor

The nearest coastal centre is San Juan de los Terreros, whose castle stands on a volcanic headland overlooking the village and surrounding shore.

Inland, Pulpí’s most remarkable landmark is its giant gypsum geode at Mina Rica. The crystalline chamber belongs to a very different landscape from the beach, yet together they reveal the geological character of a municipality shaped by minerals, volcanic outcrops, and the sea.

Restaurants around Terreros provide the practical local connection, with fish, rice dishes, and Mediterranean seafood forming part of the wider coastal table.

The Landscape

Cala Cerrada extends for approximately 150 metres and averages around 20 metres wide.

Its surface is golden sand, and official records describe the usual bathing water as calm. The cove remains visually isolated, with no continuous promenade or dense hotel frontage immediately behind it.

Facilities are limited mainly to cleaning and bins, so visitors should bring water, shade, and anything else needed for the day.

Its character comes from restraint: a short sandy inlet, accessible without a difficult expedition, yet still separated from the organised resort atmosphere nearby.
