About Santa Marina
The Vibe
Santa Marina is Ribadesella’s principal town beach, a graceful arc of golden sand backed by one of Asturias’ most attractive promenades.
The atmosphere is cultured and family-oriented. Swimmers and surfers share the water, while walkers pass gardens and elegant houses built during the town’s early twentieth-century expansion. The beach feels lively without losing its composure.
The estuary lies nearby, but Santa Marina faces the Cantabrian Sea and can receive substantial wave action. Its refined frontage should not disguise the need to follow current safety advice.
The Setting
Santa Marina — Ribadesella’s Elegant Seafront
The Local Anchor
Ribadesella is the local anchor, with a fishing harbour, old streets, and the mouth of the River Sella dividing the town’s two waterfronts.
The promenade is notable for its villas, many associated with emigrants who returned from the Americas. Beyond the beach, the Tito Bustillo cave and surrounding prehistoric heritage add exceptional cultural depth to the area.
The Landscape
Santa Marina extends for around a kilometre between the Sella estuary and the rocky western edge of the bay. The promenade traces the full curve, creating a strong relationship between architecture and shore.
Green hills rise behind Ribadesella, while the open sea fills the northern view. Tide widens and narrows the sand, changing the scale of the seafront throughout the day.
Santa Marina is best understood as a beach of elegant proportions — a maritime promenade, a historic town, and a generous Atlantic bay held together in one view.
