About Somo
The Vibe
Somo feels expansive from the moment the sand opens ahead. Together with Loredo and El Puntal, it forms a long coastal system where the horizon, dunes, and Atlantic swell dominate the experience.
Surf gives the beach much of its identity. Schools and riders use the consistent waves, while walkers can follow the shore for kilometres. Summer is lively, but the scale of the beach allows quieter stretches to remain within reach.
The water is exposed to the open sea and often energetic. Somo’s beauty comes with the need to respect flags, currents, and changing conditions.

The Local Anchor
The village of Somo is the local anchor, offering a practical mix of surf culture, restaurants, and links across Santander Bay. Passenger boats connect the area with the city, turning the journey itself into part of the coastal experience.
Local cooking draws on fish, shellfish, Cantabrian cheeses, and simple dishes suited to a day beside the water. The beach community feels informal and outward-looking.
The Landscape
Somo forms the central part of a sandy arc extending from El Puntal to Loredo. Dunes and wetland habitats lie behind sections of the beach, while the exposed western outlook receives strong swell.
Across the bay, Santander and the Magdalena Peninsula appear in the distance. Towards the east, the coast continues almost seamlessly into Loredo.
Somo is best understood as a beach of scale — long sand, wide sky, and a surf-driven rhythm on the seaward edge of the Bay of Santander.
