The Vibe

A Ameixida is a small sheltered beach on the Castiñeiras coast of Ribeira, where fine sand meets the calmer waters of the Ría de Arousa.

The atmosphere is local and unhurried. Its modest length keeps the beach closely connected to the surrounding settlement, while the protected position reduces the sense of Atlantic exposure felt on Ribeira’s western shores.

Boats, rocky points and the changing tide provide most of the movement. At higher water, the available sand narrows, reinforcing the intimate character of the cove.

The Local Anchor

Castiñeiras provides the immediate local anchor.

This maritime parish lies south of Santa Uxía de Ribeira and retains a close relationship with fishing, shellfish gathering and the productive waters of Arousa. The larger port of Ribeira remains nearby, one of Galicia’s important fishing centres, while smaller harbours and coves continue along the coast towards Aguiño.

A Ameixida is also listed on the maritime Route of the Sea of Arousa and River Ulla, the traditional water approach associated with the Camino de Santiago.
