About Playa o Touro
O Touro offers an alternative to the larger urban sands around Ribeira. It is convenient enough for a short visit yet visually separated from the busiest harbour frontage. The sheltered ria setting often gives the water a calmer appearance than beaches facing the open Atlantic, while nearby paths and roads make the shore part of the town's everyday coastal life.
The beach is best for visitors who value a local setting, easy access to Ribeira and views across the southern Ria de Arousa. It may feel peaceful outside peak summer periods, but tides and changing water conditions still require attention. A small sheltered bay should never be treated as risk-free solely because waves look modest.

The Setting
O Touro is a sheltered fine-sand beach on the southern coast of Ribeira, with its monitored point at about 42.5481 north and -8.9844 west. It lies south of the town centre near Area Secada, on the coastal route that follows the Ria de Arousa toward Aguino. The beach is compact and closely connected to Ribeira, yet its indentation and rocky edges give it a more contained character than the broad sands farther around the municipality.
Ribeira is one of Galicia's important fishing towns, and its port, fish market traditions and maritime businesses shape the identity of the surrounding coast. O Touro sits south of the centre on the route toward Aguino, where the ria gradually opens toward the Atlantic. Area Secada lies close by, and small beaches continue around the headlands.
This position places O Touro between two expressions of Ribeira: the working urban harbour to the north and the more broken, island-facing coast to the south.
Fine sand occupies a small indentation between low rocky sections. The shoreline is backed by the town's outer neighbourhoods and coastal greenery rather than a continuous promenade. Across the water, islands and headlands divide the horizon into layers, with boats moving between harbour approaches and outer channels. Lower tide reveals more sand and rock; higher water makes the bay feel tighter and more enclosed. Evening light arrives across the ria, softening the urban edge and emphasising the beach's sheltered shape.
