Punta Prima

The Vibe

Punta Prima opens broadly towards Menorca’s south-eastern horizon, with pale sand, low rock and the Illa de l’Aire lying clearly offshore.

The beach belongs to an established coastal settlement, yet the view remains strongly maritime. Waterfront houses and seasonal activity frame the sand, while the open mouth of the bay keeps the eye moving beyond them towards the island and its lighthouse. The atmosphere is brighter and more exposed than in Menorca’s narrow coves, shaped by space rather than enclosure.

Its gentle shore and easy access make Punta Prima a familiar summer gathering place, but the low coastline gives it a simple, uncluttered profile.

The Local Anchor

The municipal centre is Sant Lluís, around six kilometres inland. The town was founded during the French occupation of Menorca in the eighteenth century, and its white streets and Molí de Dalt preserve a distinct chapter of the island’s history.

Closer to the beach stands the Torre de Son Ganxo, a coastal defence tower built in 1786. Together with the lighthouse on Illa de l’Aire, it gives this otherwise relaxed resort shoreline a clear historical and navigational setting.

The Landscape

Punta Prima is a medium-sized sandy beach between low rocky points, facing south to south-east. The seabed is mainly sand, with rock and marine vegetation towards the sides, and the beach descends gradually into the water.

Official island information lists road access, nearby parking, summer public transport and seasonal services including toilets, showers and rescue provision. The same guidance warns boaters about reefs and discourages anchoring in the bay. On land, however, the character is straightforward: an accessible sandy shore, a low Menorcan coast and an uninterrupted view towards Illa de l’Aire.
