About Segunda del Sardinero
The Vibe
The Segunda del Sardinero has a broader, more expansive mood than its neighbour. It is a beach for long walks, family days, and the steady flow of Santander life along the seafront.
The sand opens widely at low tide, while the promenade, gardens, and sports areas behind it give the shore an active urban rhythm. Summer brings colour and conversation; cooler months reveal a more spacious, wind-washed character.
Although it sits within the city, the beach faces the open sea. Waves can arrive with force, so the relaxed appearance of the shore should always be balanced with current conditions.
The Setting
Segunda del Sardinero — The Long Promenade Beach
The Local Anchor
The local anchor is the wider Sardinero district, with its historic hotels, casino, parks, and avenues. The area recalls Santander’s rise as a fashionable bathing resort while continuing to serve as an everyday recreation space for residents.
Nearby restaurants and bars offer Cantabrian staples such as rabas, seafood, anchovies, and mountain cheeses, making the promenade part of a larger social landscape.
The Landscape
The Segunda occupies the central and northern part of the Sardinero sands. At low water it links visually and physically with adjacent beaches, creating almost two kilometres of continuous shoreline.
Cabo Menor and the rocky coast rise beyond its northern end, while the Magdalena Peninsula closes the wider bay to the south. The urban edge is softened by lawns and open public space.
The Segunda is a beach of movement — walkers, tides, games, and waves all travelling along one of Santander’s most generous stretches of sand.
